The square building in the middle is the State Insurance Building, officially opened in 1984 as the Bank of New Zealand Centre, and renamed when the bank moved its CEO's office up to Auckland.

It's about as tall as John, as seen in this photo taken at Frank Kitt's Park. He is standing on a children's bridge in the playground to the east, across from the carpark in the satellite picture. The playground appears dark blue because the grass has been covered with some sort of spongy material.
At Christmas the ventilation and power floors of the building are fitted with lighting. This photo was taken from our place in 2002.
This photo was taken from the area at the top of the cable car on the way to the Botanical Gardens.

There's a steep drop-off on the far side of the field (it seemed steep when I was a student climbing it), and beyond is the central business district.
This tile is made out of the same stuff used for the tower's cladding, although of course the tower itself uses much larger panels. It commemorates the official opening of the building on the 14th of November, 1984.

A friend who worked on the construction of the building mentioned once that there is a panel near the top of the building with the signatures of the people who built it on the reverse side.
